When Lily texted, *"Come over. I need help assembling something."* Ben spent twenty minutes debating whether "assembling something" was a code. He arrived with a toolbox, breath mints, and far more confidence than experience. Lily opened the door wearing comfy pajamas and smiled. "Perfect timing." Ben straightened his shirt. "I came prepared." "I can see that," she laughed, eyeing the oversized toolbox. "You really brought... everything." "I believe in being ready." "So do I." Ben's heart skipped a beat. She led him into the living room and pointed dramatically. "There it is." In the middle of the floor sat a flat-packed bookshelf. Ben blinked. "The bookshelf?" "Of course. What did you think I meant?" "Oh... nothing. Definitely the bookshelf." For the next hour, they argued over mysterious screws, impossible instructions, and whether the tiny Allen key was designed by someone who hated happiness. At one point Lily asked, "Do you think it's supposed to fit in that slot?" Ben looked over, turned bright red, and replied, "We're still talking about the bookshelf... right?" She burst into laughter. "You are so easy to fluster." "I'm trying very hard to stay focused." "On the shelf?" "Mostly." Every innocent sentence somehow sounded suspicious. "Hold it tighter." "Push a little." "No, the other side." "It's bigger than I expected." By the time the bookshelf was finally standing, they'd laughed so much they were out of breath. Lily admired their work. "You know," she said, "you're surprisingly handy." Ben grinned. "I've been waiting all evening to hear that." She rolled her eyes, trying not to smile. "I was talking about the bookshelf."
